Fifteen Years in Falls Church

Hong Kong Palace opened in June 2010 at 6387 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church, Virginia. Owner Liu Chaosheng brought authentic Sichuan recipes from his family's four generations of cooking in Sichuan province, with one goal: serve genuine Szechuan and regional Chinese dishes to Northern Virginia. He brought them to Seven Corners intact.

Over 15 years later, Hong Kong Palace has been featured in 8+ major publications, including Washingtonian Magazine's Cheap Eats (2015, 2017), Tyler Cowen's prestigious Ethnic Dining Guide — where we were described as “probably the best Chinese place around” — and DCDining.com's #1 ranking for Falls Church. We serve 100+ handcrafted dishes, with Szechuan peppercorns hand-ground daily and fresh ingredients sourced for every meal.

From the delicate folds of our xiaolongbao to the lacquered skin of our Chengdu Tea Smoked Duck, our chefs bring decades of Szechuan training to every plate. Each dish reflects the ma la (numbing-spicy) profile that defines the cuisine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Hong Kong Palace different from other Chinese restaurants in Falls Church?

Hong Kong Palace is Falls Church’s dedicated Sichuan specialist. While other Northern Virginia restaurants focus on Cantonese dim sum or Peking duck, Hong Kong Palace has served traditional Sichuan cuisine — defined by the ma la (numbing-spicy) combination of Szechuan peppercorn and dried chilies — since June 2010. Critic Tyler Cowen called it “probably the best Chinese place around” in his Ethnic Dining Guide, and Washingtonian Magazine featured it in three Cheap Eats issues (2015, 2017) and its 7 Must-Try Chinese Restaurants roundup. With entrees starting under $11 and free delivery within 3 miles, it offers the highest value-to-quality ratio for authentic Sichuan in Northern Virginia. Falls Church’s special-occasion restaurants (Peking Gourmet Inn, Mark’s Duck House) serve different cuisine styles; Hong Kong Palace is the Sichuan choice for regular weeknight dining.

What is Sichuan cuisine, and how does it differ from other Chinese food?

Sichuan (also spelled Szechuan) cuisine is one of China’s eight recognized regional cooking traditions, originating in Sichuan province in southwestern China. It is defined by the ma la (麻辣) flavor profile: the mouth-numbing tingle of Sichuan peppercorn (花椒), which contains the compound hydroxy-alpha-sanshool, paired with the heat of dried chilies. Signature Sichuan dishes include Mapo Tofu (silken tofu in a chili-bean-peppercorn sauce, created in 1860s Chengdu), Dan Dan noodles, and Kung Pao Chicken. Sichuan cooking differs fundamentally from Cantonese cuisine, which favors lighter seafood-forward preparations and dim sum, and from Peking cuisine, which centers on roasted meats and imperial-era tradition. At Hong Kong Palace, Szechuan peppercorns are hand-ground fresh daily for every service.
